When Autism and Emotional Challenges Intersect

Autism counseling at Refuge Springs Counseling provides a supportive, affirming space for individuals and families to seek understanding, growth, and meaningful change. Using evidence-based, autism-informed approaches, we help children, teens, and adults navigate emotional regulation, sensory differences, social communication challenges, and family dynamics. Our goal is to empower each person with practical tools, deeper self-awareness, and strategies that strengthen relationships—while honoring neurodiversity and each individual’s unique strengths.

Benefits of Working with an Autism Counselor

Deep Neurodivergent Understanding

You’ll work with a therapist who truly understands autism and ADHD — not just clinically, but practically and compassionately.

Thoughtful, Personalized Tools

We don’t force one-size-fits-all strategies. Together, we find tools that actually fit your brain, needs, and life.

A Space Where You’re Truly Heard

You won’t be rushed, minimized, or “fixed.” You’ll be listened to with care, curiosity, and
respect.

Do you want support that meets you, not the world’s idea of you?

Life can feel exhausting when you’re constantly adapting to expectations that weren’t made for you. Maybe masking has left you drained at the end of the day. Maybe sensory overload, executive function challenges, or social pressures make even simple tasks feel overwhelming. Or maybe you’ve spent so long trying to “fit in” that you’ve lost touch with what feels authentic.

  • These experiences are real.

  • They’re tiring.

  • They can leave you feeling unseen.

We help Autistic and ADHD adults facing burnout, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, executive function challenges, relationship struggles, and sensory or social difficulties. Using evidence- informed approaches, we tailor therapy to your needs. Together, we focus on understanding your unique neurodivergence, building coping strategies, improving self-advocacy, and creating a life
that works for you — not the world’s expectations.

You don’t have to face this alone. Let’s find support that truly fits you.

Telehealth Autism Counseling in Florida

Virtual autism counseling for autistic children, teens, adults, and their families, available by secure video statewide in Florida.

Is telehealth autism counseling a good fit, or is video harder for autistic clients?

For many autistic people, video sessions are easier than in-person ones. A familiar room, no fluorescent lights, no unpredictable waiting area, and no eye contact pressure removes a lot of what makes therapy draining. Telehealth autism counseling is available across Florida. You can keep a fidget, a pet, or a comfort item nearby without anyone commenting on it.

Do you work with autistic adults, or only kids?

Counseling is available for autistic children, teens, and adults. Adults often come in after a late identification, or while sorting out burnout, masking, work stress, or relationships. The work is not about making you seem less autistic — it is about what you want your life to look like and what is getting in the way. Sessions are weekly or bi-weekly.

Do I need a formal autism diagnosis before starting counseling?

No, a formal diagnosis is not required to begin counseling. Plenty of people start while still figuring out whether autism explains their experience, or while waiting on a lengthy evaluation. Sessions can focus on sensory needs, social exhaustion, routines, and communication regardless of diagnostic status. If a formal evaluation would help you, that can be discussed in session.

Can parents get support too, or is it just sessions for my child?

Parents can get support, and family sessions are available when the whole household needs to be in the room. Many parents want help with meltdowns, transitions, school communication, and sibling dynamics. Family sessions are $135 and self-pay only, since insurance is not accepted for family or couples sessions. Individual sessions are $115 and may be covered by insurance.

What does the first autism counseling session actually look like?

The first session is getting to know each other, gathering information, and setting goals for therapy — nothing more demanding than that. You will not be put on the spot or pushed to perform. If talking is hard on a given day, that is something to say out loud, and the pace adjusts. Everything stays confidential except when there is a threat of harm.

I live hours from Pensacola. Can I still be seen?

Yes. Sessions are delivered by secure telehealth to anyone located anywhere in Florida, from Miami to Jacksonville to the Panhandle. That matters for autism counseling, since options can be thin outside major metro areas. To start, email or use the Book Now button on the site, and you can begin from wherever you live.
